What You’ll Learn: A Deep Dive into the Art of Elder Care
This comprehensive 8-hour course (NCBTMB Approved) is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently and compassionately work with older adults.
The morning session is packed with crucial information on the aging process, including:
- Skin conditions common in the elder population
- Understanding respiratory, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal challenges
- Identifying the most prominent muscles affected by aging
In the afternoon, you’ll get hands-on experience and learn to:
- Modify and customize massage sessions for the aging and frail
- Perform fully clothed massage techniques
- Master massage for clients seated in a chair or on a scooter
Meet Your Expert Instructor: Wendi White
Wendi White, NCBTMB Provider #1325, is a highly respected Licensed Massage Therapist who has been practicing since 1998. A graduate of the Baltimore School of Massage, Wendi has extensive experience working with physicians and physical therapists, addressing a wide array of medical conditions. Her passion for working with the elderly shines through her volunteer work at a local retirement community, where she provides seated and foot massages.
As Wendi puts it, “Massage and bodywork can help them to move more easily which in turn gives them more freedom and independence.” She truly believes that touch is one of the most essential arts this population needs. Wendi has been teaching continuing education classes since 2003, sharing the wealth of knowledge she’s gained over two decades. She’s also a guest lecturer on the benefits of massage for conditions like fibromyalgia and is the author of three books on the subject. You’re in incredibly capable hands!
