Meet The Instructor
Kathy is a 500-hour Yoga Instructor registered with Yoga Alliance, trained in the Kripalu lineage.
The English translation of “Kripalu” from Sanskrit, the language of yoga, is “compassion,” which embodies the philosophy Kathy brings to her practice and teaching.
She encourages students to approach yoga with self-compassion, a practice that naturally extends to fostering compassion for others.
With over 30 years of experience as a yoga student and more than 6,000 hours of teaching, Kathy specializes in making yoga accessible to all, honoring the unique needs of each individual body.
Her teaching focuses on a gentle, mindful, and trauma-informed approach across various styles of Hatha yoga, including:

- Chair Yoga
- Restorative Yoga
- Yin Yoga
- Yoga Nidra
- Joint Freeing Yoga
In addition to her yoga teaching expertise, Kathy has received advanced training in Meditation, the Chakra System, and Ayurveda, complementing her multiple energy work certifications. Reiki, in particular, is her preferred energy healing modality.
Outside of yoga, Kathy enjoys exploring the walking and hiking trails of York, delving into a good book, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Dr. Kia James brings over 40 years of experience in healthcare and wellness.
She holds:
- A Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration (EdD)
- A Master’s in Public Health (MPH)
- Dual undergraduate degrees in French Literature and Nursing
- Certification as a Human Design Specialist & Coach
- Extensive experience as a Professor, Dean, and Public Health Leader
Originally trained as a Registered Nurse, Dr. James has worked in hospitals, industry wellness programs, and academia.
Since retiring from full-time work in 2020, she has dedicated her career to energy healing, Human Design, and holistic wellness.
Her teachings blend science, spirituality, and self-awareness to help others live more aligned and fulfilling lives.
Cancellation Policy:
- Cancellations require at least 4 hours’ notice.
- If you cancel with less than 4 hours’ notice or do not show up, you will forfeit your class payment.
- If you haven’t paid yet and cancel late or no-show, the class fee will still be applied.
